Martin Luther King Jr. Day

He had a dream, and it seems that tomorrow's inauguration is evidence that his dream is becoming reality. In his lesser known "Letter from Birmingham Jail" he poses another challenge to humanity when he writes "Though I was initially disappointed at being categorized as an extremist, as I continued to think about the matter, I eventually gained a measure of satisfaction from the label. Was not Jesus an extremist for love? 'Love your enemies, bless them that curse you.' Was not Amos an extremist for justice? 'Let justice roll down like waters' Will we be extremists for hate or for love?"

Since a critical mass has been able to move beyond the color of skin, might we just keep on going? How much further until we become extremists for love? Acting only from a place of love? It sounds far fetched, but so did having an African American president. It's time to dream another dream.
